Após a realização da “Expedição Diagnóstico Científico Rio Doce”, a Rede Gazeta e o Instituto Terra assinam um termo de parceria e realizam o Fórum SOS Rio Doce, na próxima quarta-feira, 11 de março, em Vitória (ES). O debate terá a participação dos fundadores do Instituto, Sebastião Salgado e Lélia Wanick, com a mediação da jornalista Miriam Leitão.
O encontro, limitado a convidados no auditório da Rede Gazeta, vai apresentar o resultado da expedição e o programa “Olhos D’água” de preservação das nascentes do rio. Entre os debatedores estão o pesquisador do Instituto Federal do Espírito Santo (Ifes), Abrahão Elesbon, junto com o engenheiro sanitarista e ambiental Henrique Lobo e o presidente do Comitê da Bacia do Rio Doce, Leonardo Deptulski, que participaram da expedição científica.
Rio Doce
A Bacia hidrográfica do Vale do Rio Doce se estende entre os Estados de Minas Gerais e Espírito Santo e banha 230 municípios, sendo 28 no Espírito Santo e 202 em Minas Gerais. Sua extensão abrange uma área de 8.264.600 hectares (INPE, 2000), ou 82.646 km2, o que equivale à superfície de um país como Portugal. Com um total de 853 quilômetros de percurso, o Rio Doce deságua na Vila de Regência, em Linhares (ES).
Diagnóstico Científico do Rio Doce
A TV Gazeta Norte e a Noroeste realizaram a série de reportagens “Expedição Diagnóstico Científico Rio Doce” no final do ano passado. A expedição começou na divisa do Espírito Santo com Minas Gerais, na cidade mineira de Aimorés, onde o grupo se reuniu na sede do Instituto Terra, conhecido como um refúgio de recuperação e preservação da Mata Atlântica.
Ao todo, a expedição percorreu 160 quilômetros, até a foz do Rio Doce, no mar de Regência em Linhares. No caminho, os pesquisadores coletaram e analisaram as condições de poluição, vazão e profundidade da água. Os especialistas também fizeram um levantamento completo do solo, da flora e da fauna às margens do Rio Doce. A equipe de reportagem esteve, inclusive, no município mineiro de Governador Valadares, maior cidade localizada às margens do Doce, onde o esgoto é lançado em tratamento dentro do rio.
O diagnóstico encontrado no Espírito Santo poderá ser usado como um parâmetro para a preservação do rio também em Minas Gerais, afinal, os problemas são praticamente os mesmos nos dois Estados.
Sobre o Programa Olhos D’Água
Desenvolvido pelo Instituto Terra desde 2010, o “Olhos D`Água” envolve sete municípios banhados pela bacia hidrográfica localizada entre os Estados de Minas Gerais e Espírito Santo e foi escolhido pela ONU-Água, em 2011, como uma das 70 melhores práticas para a recuperação e conservação dos recursos hídricos em nosso planeta. O programa se divide em projetos menores, com parceiros, patrocinadores e locais de atuação diferentes. Além disso, todos os projetos envolvem a mobilização das comunidades e dos pequenos proprietários rurais, do poder público municipal e do Comitê da Bacia.
O programa “Olhos D`Água” exige a conscientização de pequenos produtores rurais (a maioria das nascentes se encontra dentro dessas pequenas propriedades), além da elaboração de projeto técnico de uso e ocupação do solo e da distribuição de insumos para proteção e recuperação dos mananciais. Após a conclusão dessas primeiras etapas, o Instituto Terra também realiza, por um período de três anos, o monitoramento da vazão e qualidade da água das nascentes protegidas.
O Instituto Terra é uma organização civil sem fins lucrativos fundada em abril de 1998, que atua na região do Vale do Rio Doce, entre os Estados de Minas Gerais e Espírito Santo. Suas principais ações envolvem a restauração ecossistêmica, produção de mudas de Mata Atlântica, extensão ambiental, educação ambiental e pesquisa científica aplicada.

Sebastião Salgado – Fotógrafo e economista formado pela Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (Ufes), com pós-graduação na Universidade de São Paulo e na Universidade de Paris. Ele é cofundador e vice-presidente do Instituto Terra.
Lélia Wanick Salgado – Diretora artística de fotografia e arquiteta formada pela École Nationale Supériure des Beaux-Arts, Paris, além de licenciada e mestre em Urbanismo pela Université Paris VIII. Ela é esposa de Sebastião Salgado e também cofundadora e presidente do Instituto Terra.
Abrahão Elesbon – Professor do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Espírito Santo (Ifes), campus Colatina. Ele também é engenheiro Civil formado pela Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (Ufes), mestre em Engenharia Ambiental, doutor em Engenharia Agrícola, pela Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV) e membro do Comitê da Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Santa Maria do Doce. Sua área de atuação é o Gerenciamento Integrado de Recursos Hídricos.
Leonardo Deptulski – Formado em Engenharia Industrial Mecânica e bacharel em Ciências Contábeis, ele é presidente do Comitê da Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Doce, presidente do Condoeste, presidente do Consórcio Intermunicipal de Saneamento Básico do Espírito Santo (CISABES), presidente do Cointer e vice-presidente da Associação dos Municípios do Estado do Espírito Santo (Amunes). Leonardo Deptulski também é prefeito de Colatina.
Henrique Lobo Gonçalves – Engenheiro agrônomo, sanitário e ambiental, formado pela Universidade Federal de Viçosa e Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais. Atua como relações institucionais da Estrada de Ferro Vitória a Minas – Vale, é também membro do Comitê do Rio Doce e Comitê do Rio Santa Maria da Vitória. Foi membro do Conselho da Biosfera da Mata Atlântica e do Conselho do Fundo Nacional de Meio Ambiente, além de ter participação técnica no Projeto França – Brasil do Rio Doce.
