Terra Jovens is the Terra Institute’s newest initiative to engage, inspire and train young leaders in the Doce River Basin. Through free workshops on current topics and a focus on audiovisual production, the program offers a journey of critical learning, creative expression and social protagonism. With 12 workshops taught by experts and aimed at young people aged between 16 and 29, the project offers a safe space to debate the great challenges of our time and transform reality through culture and communication.
The program is divided into two main axes: one focused on social and environmental reflections and the other on technical audiovisual skills. During the meetings, participants learn about agroforestry, youth and community participation, culture and identity, the creative economy and disinformation – and also delve into the world of producing videos, podcasts and visual narratives using only their cell phones. The result? Young people who are more aware, creative and engaged in their communities.
“Taking part in Terra Jovens helped me see the potential we have to change our reality. It’s not just about learning techniques, it’s also about opening our eyes to our responsibility towards the land and people,” says Gabriel Sathler, a participant in the 2024 class.
