Environment Week mobilizes community in the Doce River basin

Between June 2 and 8, Instituto Terra held Environment Week 2025, with the theme “Local Actions, Global Impact”. The initiative invited the population to reflect on the role of each individual in building a more balanced future, through a diverse program that brought together environmental education, culture and sustainable practices.

Throughout the week, students from the municipal and state schools in Aimorés took part in training activities at the Institute. On June 5, 6 and 7, the activities were aimed especially at the community of Aimorés and the surrounding region, with three free attractions: a bird-watching activity, a performance of the play “De Olho no Clima” and a cycling tour of the city’s historic sites.

The first activity open to the public took place on Wednesday, June 5, at 7pm, with a performance of the play “De Olho no Clima”, by Companhia Reticências Produções. Staged in the Instituto Terra’s Cineteatro, the show addressed, in a playful and educational way, issues such as climate change, the conscious use of natural resources and socio-environmental responsibility. The aim was to promote reflection through art, reaching audiences of all ages.

On Thursday and Friday, June 6 and 7, a birdwatching experience was held at the Fazenda Bulcão Private Natural Heritage Reserve, the headquarters of Instituto Terra. The activity, led by the company Biocapi, took place from 5am to 11am and aimed to make participants aware of the richness of the local biodiversity, strengthening the connection with nature through direct contact with the wild fauna of the Atlantic Forest.

Closing the program open to the public, on Saturday, June 8, the “Movement, Culture and Environment” bike ride took place. The gathering took place at 7 a.m. at the Beira Cais, with kits being handed out to the first 250 people to sign up, as well as health care activities. The route covered the city’s historic sites, combining sustainable mobility, appreciation of cultural heritage and environmental education. At the end of the route, participants were welcomed at the Terra Institute for a moment of integration with nature and leisure activities.

“Small daily attitudes, such as saving water, planting a tree or teaching a child to respect the environment, are the seeds of big changes. Each local action has the power to have a positive impact on the planet. That’s why Environment Week is so important to us,” says Jeieli Capettini, Instituto Terra’s Education and People manager.

The Terra Institute’s Environment Week 2025 was supported by ACIASA, Aliança Energia, Biocapi, Care Plus, CDL, Lions, the Aimorés Military Police, SEBRAE, the Aimorés Department of the Environment, the Aimorés Municipal Department of Economic Development, Culture, Sport, Leisure and Tourism (SEDECELT) and AlfaUNIPAC.
