A natureza em seu estado mais puro, só encontrada em pontos extremos do planeta, onde a interferência humana é mínima ou está em perfeito equilíbrio com o meio ambiente. Esse foi o ponto de partida para provocar a reflexão e sensibilização de estudantes do ensino fundamental das 11 escolas de Resplendor, em Minas Gerais, para a necessidade urgente de o homem assumir uma nova postura em relação ao meio ambiente, pautada pelo espírito da conservação.
Paisagens físicas e humanas registradas pelo fotógrafo Sebastião Salgado em expedições pelo mundo dentro do projeto Genesis deram forma e conteúdo ao Projeto Educacional de mesmo nome, que no ano de 2012 envolveu 165 professores atuantes nas unidades de ensino públicas e privadas do município mineiro.
A partir da capacitação oferecida pelo Instituto Terra, os educadores puderam guiar seus alunos nessa viagem em busca do conhecimento necessário para resgatar o equilíbrio da vida na Terra, como propõe o autor das imagens: “Uma das razões que me levou a dedicar parte da vida fotografando a natureza é o sentimento de profundo amor por nosso planeta. Em Genesis, meu objetivo é encontrar e revelar um mundo onde a natureza e animais, incluindo os humanos, ainda vivem em equilíbrio. Como sempre, fotografo em preto-e-branco para oferecer uma nova maneira de perceber a pureza e a graça da natureza. Criando uma identidade especial com essas imagens, pretendo transmitir a mensagem de que a existência humana, agora ameaçada pela extinção, precisa de proteção”, relata Sebastião Salgado.
Sensibilizados pelas fotografias, os alunos concluíram o aprendizado produzindo trabalhos gráficos que integraram a Mostra Ecopedagógica “Conexão biodiversidade: a essência da vida”, realizada no final de novembro, nas dependências do Instituto Terra, em Aimorés-MG. A mostra recebeu um público de 724 alunos do município de Resplendor, sendo uma das ferramentas para mobilização da classe estudantil em torno da temática ambiental.
“Embora as fotos do projeto fotográfico Genesis apresentem situações de âmbito mundial, o projeto educacional utiliza estratégias formativas voltadas para a ação local, estimulando os alunos a associarem os problemas abordados à sua própria experiência de vida, tomando iniciativas para melhorar essa realidade”, explica Gladys Nunes, analista educacional do Instituto Terra e coordenadora do projeto no município de Resplendor.
O Projeto Educacional Genesis foi iniciado em 2005 e baseia-se em fotografias produzidas por Sebastião Salgado justamente com a finalidade de sensibilizar as pessoas e levá-las à reflexão sobre a relação homem-natureza. A primeira aplicação desse projeto, realizada no período de 2006 a 2007, ocorreu em 80 escolas municipais e estaduais e em 13 escolas particulares dos cinco municípios da região metropolitana de Vitória-ES, quando contou com apoio da Unesco, Editora Bei, Amazonas Images e da siderúrgica Arcelor-Mittal Tubarão.
Ao levar o projeto educacional Genesis para escolas do Vale do Rio Doce, o Instituto Terra confirma sua missão de promover a educação ambiental na região, com foco na promoção do desenvolvimento sustentável. As fotografias de Sebastião Salgado foram transformadas em manuais, cartazes e vídeos que foram utilizados pelas escolas de Resplendor durante as aulas e oficinas desenvolvidas dentro do projeto educacional, cuja proposta pedagógica se insere nas recomendações da Unesco para a Década da Educação para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável.
