Após recobrir com o verde da Mata Atlântica uma antiga fazenda de gado, localizada no interior do estado brasileiro de Minas Gerais, que estava completamente degradada após anos de exploração predatória, o Instituto Terra agora inicia uma nova etapa de sua estratégia de restauração florestal da Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural – RPPN Fazenda Bulcão, que visa aumentar a biodiversidade da floresta que foi replantada no local.
Dentro desta nova etapa de enriquecimento florestal da RPPN, o Instituto Terra acaba de receber o apoio da Crédit Agricole Suisse Foundation, com a destinação de 70 mil Euros. A parceria vai permitir somar o plantio de mais 16,8 mil mudas de 30 novas espécies nativas à área que está sendo reflorestada desde 1999. Os recursos vão garantir ainda a manutenção dessas novas árvores até dezembro de 2016. Com esse total de mudas espera-se cobrir 17,5 hectares da RPPN, que conta ao todo com 608,69 hectares, que equivale a uma área do tamanho de 842 campos de futebol de tamanho oficial.
Bioma de importância mundial, a Mata Atlântica reúne cerca de 20 mil espécies vegetais e para refazer as complexas interações existentes neste ambiente florestal é preciso reunir grande conhecimento técnico para tentar refazer também parte dessa biodiversidade.
“A reconstrução de uma floresta vai além do plantio de mudas nativas de forma sistemática. Florestas não são apenas árvores. As interações árvores x fauna x outros diversos tipos de vegetação são fundamentais e se apresentam em uma grande rede de relações. São essas interações, que ao serem destruídas pelo homem, mesmo apresentando alguns fragmentos, necessitam da intervenção para se restabelecer”, explica o analista Ambiental do Instituto Terra, Jaeder Lopes Vieira.
Segundo Vieira, utilizar uma única técnica acreditando no seu pleno restabelecimento pode se tornar frustrante. Para o Instituto Terra, essas relações apenas serão atingidas com paciência e respeitando o ritmo da natureza, o que implica em entender que o restabelecimento de uma floresta se dá em etapas, pois o ambiente que sofreu degradação intensa e constante não vai suportar as relações existentes antes da degradação. “É preciso ter paciência, perseverança e insistência. Plantar, plantar e cuidar. A natureza agradece e responde positivamente. Uma jovem floresta é ‘como um bebê’, precisa de atenção, cuidado e companhia. Esse é o início. Mas também já é uma floresta”, exemplifica Jaeder, que é engenheiro agrônomo e biólogo.
As ações de reflorestamento da Reserva do Instituto Terra realizadas nos últimos 17 anos garantiram o plantio de mais de 2 milhões de mudas nativas de Mata Atlântica, utilizando um número elevado de espécies – mais de cem por área, com destaque para aquelas que apresentavam um crescimento rápido, cobriam bem o solo e incorporavam matéria orgânica e nutrientes, protegendo o solo do impacto direto das chuvas e melhorando as suas características físicas e químicas.
“Nessa primeira etapa o objetivo maior era a proteção do solo, a melhoria das condições edáficas e a disponibilidade de alimento à fauna, que também contribui para a regeneração da floresta, aumentando a polinização e dispersando sementes”, destaca o analista Ambiental do Instituto Terra.
A parceria com a Crédit Agricole Suisse Foundation vai fortalecer a etapa de enriquecimento da área plantada, vai ajudar a restaurar os aspectos e características originais da floresta. Para isso, vão ser introduzidas as espécies denominadas de clímax. Ou seja, as novas etapas de plantio vão priorizar as árvores que dominam as copas da floresta, que vivem mais tempo e geralmente são as maiores, tais como braúna, óleo de copaíba, pau brasil, pitomba amarela, peloteira e palmito doce, entre outras espécies. Dessa forma espera-se um incremento da biodiversidade da floresta replantada, que agora tem capacidade de absorver com maior sucesso as espécies mais sensíveis deste complexo bioma que é a Mata Atlântica.
As atividades de produção das mudas já foram iniciadas pela equipe do viveiro do Instituto Terra e as etapas seguintes envolvem o preparo do solo, plantio das mudas e manutenção das mesmas.
