Uma parceria entre Instituto Terra e a ArcelorMittall Brasil, com a participação do Governo do Estado do Espírito Santo, vai ajudar na proteção de 4.750 nascentes de afluentes do Rio Doce, entre os Estados do Espírito Santo e Minas Gerais a partir do Programa Olhos D’Água.
A empresa vai destinar quantia equivalente a R$ 6,8 milhões em insumos como grampos, arames e mourões, em quantidade suficiente para cercar 4.750 nascentes de afluentes do Rio Doce, beneficiando diretamente cerca de 2,5 mil proprietários rurais, conforme o termo de cooperação assinado pelo presidente da ArcelorMitall Brasil e do segmento de Aços Planos América do Sul, Benjamin Baptista Filho, e também pelo CEO da ArcelorMittal Aços Longos América Central e do Sul, Jefferson De Paula.
A parceria, segundo destacou a presidente e fundadora do Instituto Terra, Lélia Wanick Salgado, se mostra relevante neste momento de crise de água, por servir como exemplo para a necessidade das empresas também se engajarem na busca de soluções.

Governo do ES – Do total de nascentes beneficiadas pela parceria com a Arcelor, 1.000 estão localizadas no lado capixaba do rio e vão receber do Governo do Espírito Santo apoio técnico e financeiro para complementar as ações previstas pelo Programa Olhos D’Água do Instituto Terra. O Protocolo de Intenções foi assinado pelo Governador Paulo Hartung, o secretário de Estado de Meio Ambiente e Recursos Hídricos, Rodrigo Júdice, e da presidente do Instituto Estadual de Meio Ambiente e Recursos Hídricos, Sueli Passoni Tonini.
São ações que do lado capixaba da Bacia vão beneficiar cerca de 500 produtores, envolvendo: reflorestamento com espécies de Mata Atlântica no entorno dos olhos d’água; capacitação dos produtores rurais; realização do diagnóstico ambiental das propriedades rurais onde as nascentes estão localizadas – indicando o uso atual do solo e as necessidades de adequação para correto ingresso no Cadastro Ambiental Rural; além da instalação de fossas sépticas biodigestoras, para tratamento do esgoto doméstico, evitando a contaminação do lençol freático. Todas essas atividades já estão previstas no programa realizado pelo Instituto Terra desde 2010 e que tem como meta proteger todas as nascentes desta importante bacia hidrográfica, estimadas em mais de 370 mil.
