O Instituto Terra, com o patrocínio da Energest e do Instituto EDP, acaba de concluir a proteção de mais 15 nascentes de afluentes da bacia do Rio Guandu, sub-bacia do Rio Doce localizada no município de Baixo Guandu. Assim como as demais bacias que abastecem o Espírito Santo, o Rio Guandu enfrenta nível crítico de degradação dos recursos hídricos, motivado pelo processo de ocupação desordenado sem levar em conta a necessidade de proteção e conservação dos recursos naturais.
Para efetivar a proteção, iniciada em janeiro de 2013, o Instituto Terra promoveu inicialmente a mobilização e capacitação de 15 produtores rurais, cujas unidades rurais abrigavam as nascentes protegidas. Essa fase, que exigiu a visita de técnicos do Instituto Terra às propriedades, bem como a realização de reuniões com as associações locais de produtores, contou com parcerias junto à Secretaria Municipal de Meio Ambiente de Baixo Guandu, junto ao Instituto de Pesquisa, Assistência Técnica e Extensão Rural (INCAPER), ao Instituto de Defesa Agropecuária e Florestal (IDAF) e ao Comitê de Bacia do Rio Guandu.
Com os produtores conscientes da necessidade de preservar os recursos hídricos e promover o reflorestamento, foi realizado o isolamento dos olhos d’água, promovidos plantios com espécies de Mata Atlântica no entorno dos mesmos, bem como foram realizados os estudos georeferenciados de uso e ocupação do solo de cada uma das propriedades atendidas, propondo as adequações ambientais necessárias.
As ações de proteção na bacia do Rio Guandu fazem parte do “Doces Nascentes Capixabas”, projeto do Instituto Terra que segue para sua terceira edição, também contando com o apoio da EDP, visando promover a recuperação de outros 13 olhos d’água, beneficiando mais 13 produtores rurais. Nesta nova etapa, no entanto, além de promover a recuperação dos ecossistemas naturais associados às nascentes, o projeto vai ajudar os produtores a promover o Cadastro Ambiental Rural (CAR), bem como a adesão ao Programa de Regularização Ambiental (PRA).
O “Doces Nascentes Capixabas” integra as ações do “Olhos D’Água”, programa do Instituto Terra que tem como meta proteger todas as nascentes do Rio Doce.
