Parceria do tradicional festival de música Wacken Open Air com WWF Alemanha e Instituto Terra vai recuperar nascentes da Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Doce.
Pela primeira vez desde seu surgimento, em 1990, o festival de heavy metal ao ar livre Wacken Open Air, que ocorre anualmente na pequena vila de Wacken, no norte da Alemanha, teve que ser cancelado em 2020. A pandemia de Covid-19 adiou o encontro dos fãs de heavy metal, mas não os impediu de exercer a sua solidariedade.
A organização do festival se uniu à WWF Alemanha e convocou os metalheads a participarem de uma campanha colaborativa em prol do meio ambiente e do desenvolvimento socioeconômico. O programa Olhos D’Água, desenvolvido pelo Instituto Terra, foi escolhido para pôr em prática um projeto socioambiental na Mata Atlântica.
Em ação desde abril, a parceria mobilizou 15 produtores rurais da cidade mineira de Pocrane para proteger e recuperar 30 nascentes da Sub-bacia do Rio Manhuaçu. Os produtores que participam do projeto trabalham em sua maioria com pecuária e aceitaram cercar suas nascentes porque sabem da importância de cuidar das fontes de água. Esse cuidado é ainda mais significativo na região, pois essas nascentes formam o Córrego Bom Retiro — conhecido como “Corredeira” —, de onde é feita a captação da água para abastecer toda a cidade de Pocrane.
O projeto está na fase de construção da cerca ao redor das nascentes, uma etapa que exige muito empenho dos produtores. Isso porque o ideal é que cercamento seja feito antes da chegada das chuvas, em novembro. O período chuvoso é o momento ideal para iniciar a próxima etapa do projeto: o plantio de mudas nativas da Mata Atlântica, que vão formar uma pequena floresta e ajudar a proteger a nascente.

Nesta etapa de cercamento dos olhos-d’água, o projeto também está contando com o importante apoio da Prefeitura de Procrane, que tem oferecido mão-de-obra para efetuar o cercamento das nascentes e tem auxiliado no transporte dos insumos até áreas de difícil acesso.
A realização do projeto segue até dezembro de 2023. Até lá, seguimos cuidando das nascentes, plantando árvores e curtindo muito heavy metal.
