O Instituto Terra estabeleceu uma nova parceria dentro do programa “Olhos D’Água”, voltado para a revitalização dos recursos hídricos da Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Doce. Desde janeiro estão em curso as ações necessárias para promover o cercamento e o plantio de mudas nativas para recuperação de mais 25 nascentes localizadas na microbacia do Rio Capim, uma sub-bacia do Rio Manhuaçu, afluente do Rio Doce.
O apoio financeiro vem da organização não-governamental Anne Fontaine Foundation, criada em 2011, em Nova Iorque, pela estilista de moda Anne Fontaine, e que tem ações voltadas para a proteção e reflorestamento da Mata Atlântica no Brasil, sempre atuando em parceria com ONGs brasileiras.
A meta do Instituto Terra é estabelecer novas parcerias dentro do programa “Olhos D’Água” para efetivar, nos próximos anos, a proteção de cem por cento das nascentes do rio Capim, que abastece grande parte da cidade de Aimorés (MG).
Eleito pela ONU-Água como uma das 70 melhores práticas para recuperação de recursos hídricos em curso no mundo, o programa “Olhos D`Água” exige um longo processo de conscientização a partir da mobilização e capacitação de pequenos produtores rurais, tendo em vista que a maioria das nascentes se encontra dentro dessas pequenas propriedades.
O programa prevê, ainda, ações como a elaboração de projetos técnicos de adequação ambiental das propriedades rurais onde se localizam as nascentes, bem como a distribuição de insumos e de mudas nativas de Mata Atlântica para proteção e recuperação dos mananciais. A mão-de-obra para cercamento das nascentes, bem como o plantio das mudas, é de responsabilidade dos produtores participantes do projeto.
Após a conclusão dessa primeira etapa, o Instituto Terra também realiza, por um período de três anos, o monitoramento da vazão e qualidade da água das nascentes isoladas, permitindo medir o sucesso das ações de proteção efetivadas.
