Com a parceria, ações do Programa Olhos D´Água do Instituto Terra beneficiaram produtores rurais das localidades de Baixo Guandu (ES) e de Aimorés (MG)
O Instituto Terra, com o apoio da Fundação Príncipe Albert II de Mônaco, acaba de concluir a proteção de mais de 85 nascentes de afluentes do Rio Doce, nas micro-bacias dos rios Guandu e Mutum, no município de Baixo Guandu-ES, e do rio Capim, em Aimorés-MG.
As ações para proteção e revitalização dos recursos hídricos, incluindo reflorestamento das áreas em torno das fontes de água, fazem parte do Programa Olhos D´Água, desenvolvido pela ONG ambiental desde 2010 e que já promoveu intervenções para ajudar na recuperação de perto de 2 mil nascentes.
O projeto desenvolvido com o apoio da Fundação do Príncipe de Mônaco foi iniciado em outubro de 2016 e beneficiou diretamente 31 pequenas propriedades rurais, que além de receberem como doação os materiais (arame, estacas e grampos) para cercar os olhos d´água, também contaram com a instalação gratuita de 40 estações de tratamento para o esgoto doméstico, modelo Mini-ETEs, com o objetivo de evitar a contaminação do lençol freático na área atendida pelo programa.
Do viveiro do Instituto Terra saíram 7,5 mil mudas nativas de Mata Atlântica para plantio ao redor dos 60 olhos d´água que exigiram intervenção – as outras 25 nascentes apresentaram regeneração natural após o isolamento. Considerando as condições extremas de seca, da aridez do solo, e de escassez de chuva entre os anos de 2016 e 2017, os plantios foram concentrados na última estação chuvosa, com conclusão em janeiro.
Conforme previsto no protocolo de ações do Programa Olhos D´Água, os produtores rurais participantes receberam também informações técnicas para participar ativamente do processo de proteção desses mananciais, engajando-se com o fornecimento da mão-de-obra para construção das cercas.
“Eu sempre soube da importância da água para minha propriedade, então por anos eu sempre procurei proteger minhas nascentes de água, mas eu nunca conseguia os recursos financeiros e o conhecimento técnico necessário para fazer isso com sucesso. Agora, estava aguardando a estação das chuvas para plantar as mudas e completar o trabalho”, disse Júlio Cesar Santos Gomes, um dos proprietários rurais atendidos pelo Instituto Terra no município de Baixo Guandu (ES), com o Programa Olhos D´Água, a partir do apoio da Fundação Príncipe Albert II de Mônaco. “Estou muito feliz por poder plantar espécies nativas, pois sei que as exóticas precisam de muita água, consumindo boa parte da água produzida pela nascente”, destacou Júlio Cesar.
Entre as ações desenvolvidas pelo projeto consta também a coleta de água de parte das nascentes protegidas, para medir os resultados das ações em termos de quantidade e qualidade da água.
“É muito gratificante perceber o enorme impacto que podemos trazer para o futuro dos produtores beneficiados. É devolver a esperança e a fé em um futuro melhor. Sem este importante apoio da Fundação Príncipe Albert II de Mônaco não seria possível realizar este trabalho”, conclui Isabella Salton, diretora Executiva do Instituto Terra.
Esta é a segunda vez que a Fundação Príncipe Albert II de Mônaco destina recursos para o Programa de recuperação de nascentes do Instituto Terra. Na primeira vez foram contempladas 50 nascentes localizadas no município de Aimorés-MG (na micro-bacia do Rio Capim, afluente do Rio Doce), que teve as ações de proteção realizadas entre os anos de 2013 e 2014.
