Duzentos pequenos produtores rurais de 22 municípios do Médio Rio Doce estão recebendo assistência técnica do Instituto Terra para adequação ambiental de suas propriedades e posterior ingresso no Bolsa Verde, um programa do Governo de Minas Gerais que propõe o pagamento por serviços ambientais a proprietários e posseiros de terras que já preservam ou que se comprometem a recuperar a vegetação de origem nativa em suas propriedades ou posses.
Os estudos de zoneamento físico e ambiental dessas unidades estão sendo efetivados pelo Instituto Terra a partir de convênio firmado com o Instituto Estadual de Florestas de Minas Gerais (IEF-MG), através de Secretaria de Estado de Meio Ambiente e Desenvolvimento Sustentável, dentro do “Projeto Estratégico de Conservação e Recuperação da Mata Atlântica, Cerrado e Caatinga”. O Instituto Terra já realizou o mapeamento em 155 do total de 200 unidades produtivas contempladas pelo projeto, que tem previsão de conclusão até março de 2013.
A partir da análise do uso e ocupação do solo dessas unidades produtivas, e da elaboração do plano para adequação ambiental de cada unidade, de acordo com o novo código florestal, o objetivo final é promover a restauração ecossistêmica do bioma Mata Atlântica numa área total de 1,6 mil hectares no Médio Rio Doce.
Os produtores atendidos são dos municípios de Governador Valadares, Conselheiro Pena, Mantena, Taparuba, Ipanema, Resplendor, Mutum, Pocrane, Aimorés, Itueta e Santa Rita do Itueto, Alvarenga, São Geraldo do Baixio, Galiléia, Cuparaque, Goiabeira, Central de Minas, Marilac, Caratinga, Imbé de Minas, Inhapim e Piedade de Caratinga.
“O envolvimento dos pequenos proprietários rurais é um dos principais fatores para garantir a efetividade e continuidade das ações de recuperação ambiental. Por isso uma das principais metas estabelecidas é a assistência técnica direta a esse pequeno produtor, para que ele possa aderir às técnicas da agricultura sustentável, preservando o meio ambiente”, destaca o superintendente Executivo do Instituto Terra, Adonai Lacruz.
Além disso, de maneira associada, estão sendo desenvolvidas atividades de educação ambiental nas comunidades da região atendida pelo projeto, também objetivando estabelecer uma nova consciência, voltada para a conservação dos recursos naturais.
O projeto contempla ainda o monitoramento em outros mil hectares de área, onde anteriormente foram realizadas, pelo Instituto Terra, ações de restauração florestal na região, patrocinadas pelo Governo de Minas Gerais com o apoio financeiro do ITTO. Nestas áreas já manejadas será realizado um diagnóstico do atual estágio de reflorestamento e promovidas as ações necessárias para sua manutenção, como replantios, coroamentos, roçadas e enriquecimento.
